Polar Pace Progress Update and Testing Results

Seems as though the testing for Polar Pace is going much better then expected. It seems to work correctly on every device tested so far. Listed below are my next two goals in order of when I will complete each!

1. Disable Rotation – I will disable rotation so the game may only be played in landscape view as it gives the best viewing for Polar Pace’s game design

2. Move Snowmobile – I will make it so that the snowmobile will be able to move around the screen using the accelerometer

3. Create Trees – Trees will be the first part of the gameplay. You must dodge the trees. The first mode I am working on in the game is the downhill mode! After that I will create track based racing.

Well that is all for now! Tell me what you think of the planned features. Would love to hear some feedback from everyone.

Polar Pace Fever! Everyone Has It!

Yes you heard that correctly, everyone seems to have the fever for Polar Pace. After posting a topic in the XDA-Developers forum my site and Polar Pace has become an overnight hit. For now that is! Hopefully it keeps up as I release more versions of Polar Pace. The next version should have more gameplay elements as this last version was mainly just to test whether the accelerometer code was working on devices.

Thanks to everyone for downloading and testing the game! So far it has had 170 downloads and counting. The total hits to my site has dramatically increased too.

Keep checking back for more updates and releases.

Challenges Of Android Programming

Programming applications for Android is very new to me. One of the main things is activities that have been giving me a challenge. They are basically just different parts of the application. You have multiple activities in one application. So after learning about activities controlling items in the layout xml file has been tough. It mainly has to do with changing TextViews over to integers, this is my latest difficulty. I need to use the TextView data to move my ImageView object around the screen. The data is numbers and data captured from the accelerometer using the sensorManagement system.

Finally! Accelerometer Success!

After many days of a crashing application without any leads on what the problem was it has finally been solved! Turns out that it wasn’t the accelerometer code at all and was just the way I was drawing the information from the accelerometer.

Now that I am reading the data from the accelerometer my next step is applying that to my ImageView item which is the snowmobile. So it shouldn’t be to long until I have a movement test out. Maybe I will call it an alpha version. The graphics won’t be final and the game will still have a ways to go from that point though.

Finding and Fixing

Currently in the process of debugging what I have programmed so far on Polar Pace. The game doesn’t seem to be launching correctly after the menu. I am getting some help with the subject and hope to have it all sorted out so I can get moving on the gameplay areas. The accelerometer code I have doesn’t seem to work correctly and crashes the game even though I can’t find anything wrong with it. After doing some research I think it maybe be receiving information to quickly from the accelerometer which then overloads the program and causes an error.
